Confidence Versus Arrogance

Being confident is healthy. There are paid classes to become confident, not arrogant.

Today we examine what psychologists, dictionaries, and celebrities. And what they tell us about the differences between confidence and arrogance.

What is the difference between confidence versus arrogance? Arrogance is being too full of yourself to the point of overflowing . While Confidence is being full of yourself

1.) What Do the Dictionaries Have to Say?

Anytime we hear a more complicated word, we look to the professionals. Let’s see what the top two dictionaries, Oxford and Webster have to say.

Oxford Dictionary Arrogance

Arrogance: “the behavior of a person when they feel that they are more important than other people, and are rude to them, or do not consider them”

– Oxford Dictionary

Confidence: “A feeling of self-assurance arising from an appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities.”

-Oxford Dictionary

The definitions of arrogance and confidence seem contradictory in the oxford dictionary.

Reason being, that arrogant definition means thinking you’re more important than other people.

Yet, in certain situations, you can be important than other people. For example, during a soccer (Futbol) game. Cristiano Ronaldo would be more important than any reserve(bench) player on his team.

Aside from making his team win. Simply based off giving the fans a good show. Entertaining the fans.

Would that make Cristiano Ronaldo arrogant? Or somebody that’s being realistic?

Webster Dictionary Confidence

Arrogance: “an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions. “

– Webster Dictionary

Confidence: “a feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances “

– Webster Dictionary

The Webster dictionary focuses more on ranking one’s abilities. In comparison to ones peers.

A confident person believes in their abilities. When dealing with difficult situations. Fitting into the cliché term phrase “being comfortable in your own skin“.

In contrast, Arrogant people, think their abilities are on another stratosphere. Widely known as the term overrated.

2.) Are Athletes and Entertainer Arrogant?

Athletes and professional entertainers are the best examples for discussing the difference between confidence and arrogance.

When people are at the highest level of fame and success. It’s only human for it to go to their heads.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Golden Goose

This is Cristiano Ronaldo at 18 years old coming into the league. Not even knowing the definition of confidence.

Who could’ve guessed that he’d be Arguably the most arrogant or confident player? In the game of soccer (Futbol).

Interviewer “Why is it always controversy with you?”

Cristiano Ronaldo “Maybe I’m too good”

Is Ronaldo being confident or arrogant? I would say in this case Ronaldo appears arrogant at this moment. Proclaiming that he is so good at a sport, that others can’t comprehend him.

Even though Ronaldo is a5-time Ballon d’Or (MVP) winner. Which is a record

He’s still rivaled by Lionel Messi who also has 5 Ballon d’Or. Except for Messi’s calm, and more humble behavior gives him less backlash.

He’s one of the best soccer players of all time. Ronaldo has the accolades to back up his attitude.

Cristiano Ronaldo is confident. According to Webster’s definition, but not Oxford’s dictionary.
